EzriCare Artificial Tears have become the focus of widespread litigation due to the eye drops’ alleged links to serious health risks. These over-the-counter drops, which many people used to treat dry eyes, were recalled after contamination with a dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This contamination has reportedly led to severe infections, vision loss, and even deaths.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified the issue in early 2023, prompting a recall of EzriCare products. The bacterial contamination is linked to multiple manufacturing failures, including inadequate microbial testing and unsafe packaging practices. The bacteria, which thrives in contaminated water and soil, allegedly caused infections in over 80 patients by mid-2023, with numerous lawsuits following soon after.
