Zantac litigation involves thousands of lawsuits filed by people who developed cancer after using the popular heartburn medication Zantac. This drug was on the market for decades and prescribed to millions for conditions like acid reflux and ulcers. However, in 2019, researchers discovered that Zantac contained high levels of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a chemical known to cause cancer. The FDA quickly responded by pulling Zantac from the market and issuing safety warnings in 2020.
Many Zantac users who took the drug over long periods claim that NDMA exposure from Zantac led to their cancer diagnoses. Plaintiffs argue that the drug manufacturers, including GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Sanofi, knew or should have known about the risks associated with Zantac and failed to warn the public.
