Tepezza is a prescription drug approved by the FDA in 2020 to treat thyroid eye disease (TED), an autoimmune condition that causes swelling, eye pain, and vision problems. While the drug has helped many patients with TED, some people who used Tepezza began reporting serious hearing problems after receiving the treatment. These problems include tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hearing loss.
As more patients came forward with complaints, studies revealed that up to 65 percent of Tepezza users experienced hearing damage. This figure is much higher than the 10 percent risk initially stated by the drug’s manufacturer, Horizon Therapeutics. Patients affected by hearing loss allege that Horizon did not adequately warn doctors or patients about the risk of permanent hearing damage.
